“I’m definitely more aware of taking a learner-centred approach and what inclusiveness really means in a learning context.”
Faye works with mental-health presenters and says, ‘I thoroughly enjoyed doing this course!
My learning goals for completing the course were wanting to deliver more effective presentations, gain a deeper understanding, motivate people to enjoy their own learning experience, and understand how to support people. And I certainly learnt this from the course, ten-fold!!
Previously I’d gone on gut feel developing my presentations, putting together what I thought the learners wanted to get out of it. But the course showed me how structure can improve what I put together. Which actually takes away the stress.
One of the key things I learnt was how different people learn and to take more of a learner-centred approach, which is something I’m definitely more aware of now. So, the approach I take from my training, from set up, to marketing, and thinking about what the learner is going to get out of it, are the bones for putting everything else together.
I went into the course thinking I wanted to learn about this, so I could better do my job. But I also saw that these skills were going to be applicable in any workplace environment.
On a personal level, I got a deeper understanding and appreciation of Te Tiriti ō Waitangi and how it applies within our learning context in New Zealand. I really got a lot out of that and what inclusiveness really means. Incorporating principles for Māori, but also understanding they support learning for all people. That was real and really cool!’
