LEARNER PROFILE ITL3 & FLM4: RODNEY JOHNSON

“It’s not until you stand back and look, and do a course like this, you get a great appreciation of how your company actually operates.”

Our people and culture (HR) let us know about the course and I went on to LearningWorks to see what the course entailed and then thought ‘yeah that sounds like me’. I didn’t necessarily want to go higher, but it appealed to me from a management point of view.

I was a bit apprehensive about whether it would fit with my work and personal life, but it actually blended well.

Sometimes I wasn’t sure if I was, or I wasn’t doing enough, but the email updates were so helpful to keep me knowing where I should be at.

ITL3 really prepared me for FLM4 – I didn’t have to work out the online platform, so that part was easy, and I could concentrate on the content. And from my perspective I liked the mixed learning, like the online, the assignments and then the face to face, I think it’s the perfect blend. So, I found what I was doing on the course, I actually was doing it in my work already. I believed that I had terrible time management, but when we actually did the course and broke down our time management skills and all that, I actually found that I was very good.

But my perception was, that because I felt flustered, that my time management skills were terrible. From that I actually found that because I was calmer about how my time was spent; I didn’t feel flustered. So, learning about my own perception certainly calmed me down.

The management styles for me were my favourite part because again what I thought about myself was totally different! It’s made me so much more observant of what others’ styles are. It’s not until you stand back and look, and do a course like this, you get a great appreciation of how your company actually operates.

Even now there’s so much I’m still learning, even though I’ve been in the industry for over twenty years, there’s still things every day that I don’t know. Especially in this job, you can’t make it up.

“I would recommend this course if you’ve got the time, and commitment to plan well for your study and get focused. It is a very, very good course.”
