As a young woman making her way in the equipment hire industry, Karina Inwood knew she would have to show her colleagues that she was up to the demands of the job, especially as she sees herself as a potential leader.
Karina could have stayed in her home town of Ōpōtiki but made the move to Auckland in search of better opportunities. She loves the variety of her work. “I’m a serviceperson driver, I service equipment and drive a truck. I really like my employer. They support growth, and promote growth. Whatever study you want to do, they will support you.”
Karina chose a LearningWorks Introduction to Team Leadership (ITL) course as she sees opportunities for personal growth within her current industry.
Karina credits the relationship she developed with course facilitator, John, for helping her develop her leadership practice. They got on so well that Karina enrolled on John’s next course, LearningWorks First Line Management (FLM), then sought his advice on next steps. . “It’s pretty awesome to have had that level of support.”
Karina is a busy person. Fitting in study was made easier by the flexible learning approach of the ITL course.
I like that I can use the Moodle app on my phone to do all of my pre-course activities. If I’m stuck somewhere I can look at lecture slides or listen to a video at the gym.”
A sign of how successfully she’s demonstrating what she’s learned was when a colleague applying for promotion credited Karina as their inspiration.
