Harikat is a mechanical engineer for Kiwirail. He works on the wagons, checking for rust and cracks and repairing and welding. He says, “Kiwirail is the best company to work for. Everyone helps each other out. You know what the other guy’s capabilities are. So, it’s like let him do that and I’ll do this other job. We work like a family.
The chance to do this course was the perfect opportunity for me to get my foot into leadership. I’m not good at telling people what to do but I really want to step up into a leadership position. There was so much of the content of the course that I didn’t know before. The learnings I got have really helped me out. Now I think, okay, so this person is like that, so I need to follow these steps. I think about what type of leadership is perfect for the workplace and the situation. It makes for a better atmosphere.
The course worked well for me. I work fulltime and I was looking for something that would suit my work. This was perfect. When I was studying, it was hard sometimes because you’ve got to finish your assignments, but once you’re finished you feel very satisfied. The hard work pays off when you get the results. When you see the certificate, you think, oh I’ve really got something there.
My teacher, Andrew, was really good too. It was great learning from him. Every session he would bring in something different.
