LEARNER PROFILE ATT4: RAYMOND TANCREL

“I’m more aware of breaking learning tasks down to get the right result.”

Raymond began the ATT4 course when he was a Learning Support Manager at Etco, but he stepped down from that role to return to his passion of tutoring. As a tutor he’s able to incorporate his real-life experiences into his delivery. He says, “You can explain to your learners the theory but it’s the real-life experiences that are the game-changers.”

Raymond continues, “I just want to comment on the course tutor. I think he’s brilliant. What I liked about his delivery was he would say something, but he used a life experience to explain it. I use a similar style but when you see someone else doing it, and he did it very well, you think oh, so it actually works.

I also realise now how important it is to break concepts and processes down, so they are more easily understood by the learners. It’s important in our field that processes are followed correctly. If you’re going to fix something electrical, you must make sure it’s safe to touch. So, when we looked at all the stages in making a cup of coffee in a face-to-face session, that concept was illustrated very clearly. I’m more aware now of breaking learning tasks down to get the right result.”

When Raymond was asked if the course was beneficial to him, he replied, “Absolutely, it was a mind shift of how we can deliver in stages. It’s important to look at how we deliver information, but also what other aspects or ideas can be brought into sessions. There are so many other aspects to consider around teaching and learning, than just the set ideas of the technical requirements we have as electricians.”

“The tutor was brilliant. He shared real-life experiences and broke concepts down into more easily understood stages.”
